A compass is an instrument used for navigation and orientation that shows direction relative to the geographic "cardinal directions", or "points". A sun compass uses the position of the Sun in the sky to determine the directions of the cardinal points, making allowance for the local latitude and longitude, time of day, equation of time, and so on.
